Steuben, Blue Cluthra Vase, Large Magnum Size, HTF Color, Very Nice~~~

$1,795

For sale is a large art glass vessel made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. This is from my personal collection. The vase is done in Frederick Carder's most highly collected and sought after Blue Cluthra glass. I call this a magnum vase because of its size. The correct classification would be considered a "Tapered Swollen Shoulder Vase". The vase is rather large as it stands 8 1/16" tall and has a diameter of 8 1/16" at the shoulder. The top inside opening has a diameter of 3 1/16" and an outside one of 4 9/16". The bottom or foot of the vase is 3 5/8" in diameter. The circumference of the vase at the shoulder is an amazing 25 1/3" around.

The vase displays a tapered swollen shoulder form with a flaring wide top opening. The vase is executed in Steuben's Cluthra technique. It is a blue colored vessel with wonderful veining and bubbles trapped inside throughout. There are large and small bubbles. Some area's having a higher concentration than others. It has a wide and thick flaring top opening to receive a bouquet of flowers. This is a large and heavy piece of art glass. It was considered to be extremely difficult to blow and keeps its shape on the blowing pipe simply because of its size. The vase weighs 4 lbs 13 ozs before packing.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase has a large counter sunk polished pontil, the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass. There is scratches on the underside ring typical of normal age wear and some carbon trapped within the glass.. There is an open Cluthra bubble in the counter sunk polished pontil. This was made this way and happened from polishg and counter sinking the pontil scar and considered insignificant. This cannot be seen when displayed.

The piece is not signed and more than likely had a paper label at one time. There is no mistake as to who made this vase . It is known as shape number 2683 in the Steuben catalog of shapes. I have attached a link below that takes you to the Steuben Club Website of shapes to document it as such. This is a very nice example of Steuben's Blue Cluthra in both form and technique. This vase is guaranteed to be made by Steuben Glass or a full refund including shipping both ways. This vase was made circa 1910-1920. Purchase with confidence as quality art glass especially of this size is becoming almost impossible to find in excellent condition.
