For sale is a lovely piece of art pottery made by The Van Briggle Pottery Company of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The item is a vase and is simply called "Butterflies". The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 3/16" tall and is 3 7/8" in diameter at the widest point. The vase is made in one of Van Briggle's most highly collected glazes known as "Ming Turquoise".
The vase has a squat shape and it is decorated with 3 embossed Butterflies inside of an almost heat shaped window. The background glaze is a soft robins egg blue with the Butterflies themselves being a deeper blue. The two toned contrast of blues makes for a very pretty cabinet or bud vase.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The inside of the vase shows some wear and it appears that was taken care of during its use. This piece is signed on the bottom with the impressed Van Briggle Double A Logo mark along with "Van Briggle" in large freehand letters with "Colo. Spgs Colo" underneath it. This piece has a sandy bottom this dating it from the 1940-1960's.
This is a wonderful form in excellent condition. Those of you who collect Arts and Crafts design pottery will surely welcome this addition into your collection. I am sure it will look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. This piece was made circa 1940-1960.
