Fenton, Early Amethyst Butterfly Bon Bon, Nice Iridescence, Excellent Condition

$48

For sale is a carnival glass Bon Bon made by Fenton Glass Company of Williamstown, West Virginia. The pattern is called "Butterflies" and it is an double handled Nappy done in amethyst. This Bon Bon measures 3 1/4" tall and is 7" in diameter outside handles measurement.

The Bon Bon has a crimped form with 2 applied ear shaped handles. It depicts a pattern of butterflies looking into the center of the bowl. There are a total of 9 of these raised relief butterflies. There are 8 that surround upper portion of the bowl with 1 of them being located right in the bottom center. The detail in the butterflies is just outstanding as you can see stippling in the wings, rings around the body with eyes and antennae. This is set against a amethyst base glass color. The back of the Bon Bon is a wide panel back. The color is excellent as you can see brilliant Iridescence with strong hues of fuchsia and blue/purple. The back shows these color tones as well. The mold strike in this bowl is crisp and clean. The bowl has a collar base foot and has a saw toothed to border.

The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips, or dings. There is very minor wear to the iridescence. The piece is unsigned and shows to be an earlier version of Fenton's Butterfly pattern in a Bon Bon form.

I have had this pattern many times over the years. I will honestly say this piece has one of the crispest mold strikes I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Purchase with confidence as I'm sure you will be delighted with your purchase. This piece was made circa 1910-1920.
