Heliosine, Beautiful Amphora Style, Exaggerated Handles, Blue Iridescence Vase

Sold

For sale is a very nice piece of art pottery that I am attributing to Heliosine Pottery. This was most likely made by the Amphora Werks in Turn Teplitz, Austria. This shape is a classic Art Nouveau shape. The vase is considered a cabinet piece as it stands 4 5/8" tall and is 3 1/2" wide at the bottom bulbous area. The opening at the top shaped and is 1 3/4" wide.

The vase displays a twisted ribbed form in the shape of a mountain with a volcano opening at the top. It is further accented with 4 sets of handles that resemble an exploding Volcano with the lava flowing and looping over and attaching to the sides. It has an exceptional blue purple iridescent glaze that resembles the blue Favrile Glass of Tiffany Studios and the Blue Aurene of Steuben Glass. The handles are just outrageous and extremely thin and delicate. When I first saw this piece I thought it was glass until I picked it up. It is extremely light in weight which is common for these pieces.

The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The piece is unsigned as is the case for most of these pieces. I though this might be a piece of Clement Massier of France as he produced Iridescence art pottery similar in appearance as well. My research tells me he signed most of his pieces and thus I would have to lean more towards Heliosine. It is possible the signature is obscured by the glaze.

This is a wonderful piece of Art Nouveau Pottery made by a master Potter. These Art Nouveau iridescent art pottery pieces are highly desired by both Glass and Pottery collectors. This vase is in wonderful condition for its age. I would say this piece was made at the turn of the century circa 1900-1910.
