Clarke Pyramid Fairy Lamp Lamp, Amber w Clear Diamond Point Pattern

$145

For sale is a nice candle lamp made by S. Clarke of Crickelwood (outer section) of London, England. The item is a Fairy Candle Lamp. This candle lamp when assembled stands 3 11/16" tall and is 2 7/8" in diameter at the bottom.

This Fairy candle lamp displays a pyramid shape and it is made in 2 parts. There is a bottom or candle holder and a top or cover. The bottom is done in a clear crystal type glass and the top is done in an amber crystal. They both have a diamond point pattern similar to the early brilliant cut glass but these were mold made and not wheel cut. The top has an almost bee-hive dome shape.

This Fairy lamp is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no major cracks, or chips to either piece of glass. The top polished area has a few tiny flea nicks and I believe they happened when it was made. The lamp is signed on the underside bottom of the clear holder and it reads "S. Clarke Fairy Pyramid" and an embossed pattern of a Fairy holding her wand. These candle lamps were first introduce in the middle of the 19th century when candle use was the way to light a home. These were very popular during the Victorian era.

I want to point out that the cover on this Fairly Lamp is unlike all the other diamond point patterns I have seen. This one is much more complex and has 2 sizes to the diamond shape. The small diamonds are tightly knitted together with the larger diamonds being at their corners. This Fairy lamp was made circa 1890-1910.
