Roseville Pottery, Bleeding Hearts, Pink Double Handled Cut Out Vase, Nice Shape

$165

For sale is a lovely vase made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is known as "Bleeding Heart" and the shape is a vase. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 6 3/8" tall and is 4 1/2" in diameter. The foot has a diameter of 3 3/16".

This vase has an unusual top border consisting of 6 petals that have a space between them and are folded over at their tips. This vase depicts a very pleasing pattern that consists of a branch of Bleeding Heart flowers that come out of the leaves in the middle center and down from the top of the vase. The leaves drop down from the top lip at the left hand corner on each side. This pattern is on both sides but are not quite the same. One side has 2 strands of Bleeding Hearts and the other side has only 1. The flowers are a light salmon rose color with sage green leaves. This pattern is set against a deep salmon or red pink background glaze. The inside of the vase is very clean and shows no calcium deposits. The vase has a round foot where the handles meet the foot and the underside body.

This vase is in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is crazing to the piece and can only be seen in bright light or upon very close inspection. Some of the top points are light in in the glaze at the end tips. It was made this way. The vase is signed with the raised relief "Roseville U.S.A." signature along with the shape number 964-6". There is a number "3" and the letter "R" written in a blue grease pencil on the bottom. I believe this to be the finishers marks.

This is a rather hard to find form with no damage. When found there is almost always damage. I am happy to report there is none on this piece. This vase is a nice example of the Bleeding Heart pattern in both form and color. This vase was made circa 1940.
