For sale is a very nice vase made by The Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The vase is done in what we call a "Buttressed Handled" or Arts and Crafts style vase. It is done in one of Fulper Pottery's most beautiful glaze combinations known as "Cat's Eye Flambe". The vase has a nice size to it as it stands 4 3/4" tall and is 6" in diameter at the waist or its widest point.
The vase has a squat form and is accented with 2 buttressed style handles that rises up from the waist and attaches to the top lip perfectly flush or even with the top opening. These appear to be two backward (7's) shaped buttress handles. This gives this piece that added arts & crafts, mission flair. The vase depicts a rich caramel glaze that is accented with a deep brown/black Flambé glaze. The glaze drippings and runs are just wonderful as you can see. They are mostly on one side with the other showing none below the waist.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. Usually there are the smallest glaze pops with the Cats Eye Flambe glaze but there ISN'T even 1 with this vase. The vase is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's racetrack ink stamp signature mark. As an added bonus there is even a paper label still attached at the bottom in 2 pieces. This would date this vase to be made circa 1922-1928.
This is a real popular shape with the Fulper Pottery collectors and was known as shape number 452 in the Fulper Catalog pages. This is a wonderful example of this form and glaze from Fulper. I'm sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This would look outstanding on that Stickley, mission, arts and crafts style bookcase.
