For sale is an adorable piece of art pottery made by the Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is the ever popular "Coppertone" and this is considered a figural vase or vessel. This piece measures approximately 4" tall, 4 1/4" in length and 3 1/2" deep.
A favorite among the Coppertone collectors, the piece depicts a frog clinging to a water lily or Lotus blossom while sitting on a lily pad. The detail on this frog makes him look like he could jump any minute! The frog has a moss green background with charcoal mottling throughout. His eyes and mouth have careful detailing to complete this handsome fellow. The lily pad background is a wonderful deep moss green with lots of copper.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is crazing inside the lily pad and the underside bottom. This is quite common with this cream glaze on this particular form. It does not take away from its value. In fact, I actually think it enhances the realism. The piece is signed on the underside bottom with Weller's half kiln mark. There is also the number 19 written in a green glaze and the letter "D". These are more than likely the finishers marks.
This vase was made circa 1927-1929 based on its mark.
