Weller Pottery, Coppertone, Turtle and Lotus Blossom Candlestick, Very Nice

$395

For sale is an adorable piece of art pottery made by the Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is the ever popular "Coppertone" and this is considered a figural candlestick. This piece measures approximately 4 3/4" wide, 3 7/8' deep, and 3 1/8" tall.

A favorite among the Coppertone collectors, the piece depicts a Snapping Turtle climbing onto a lily pad and another lily pad partially covers his shell with a water lily or Lotus blossom flower acting as a candle holder. The detail on this Turtle makes him look very realistic. The Turtle has a moss green background with tan/copper mottling through out. His eyes and mouth have careful detailing to complete the look. The lily pad platform has a wonderful deep moss green with copper mottling. This piece overall has a good deal of copper mottling throughout.

The candlestick is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. There is a glaze pop deep inside the lily pad and cannot be seen. There is faint crazing in the cream colored glaze. This is quite common with this cream glaze on this particular form. It does not take away from its value. In fact, I actually think it enhances the realism. The piece is signed on the underside bottom with the half kiln ink stamp "Weller Pottery" signature and the number "19" written in green glaze. This is most likely the finishers marks. As an added bonus this piece has the half kiln paper label as well. I have only seen a few of these labels in my 46+ years as a collector and dealer.

This vase was made circa 1927-1929 according to the signature marks.
